Boort is a small town located in the north-west of Victoria, Australia. It is located approximately 240 kilometers north-west of Melbourne, and is situated in the Shire of Loddon.

The town has a long and fascinating history, dating back to the mid-19th century when it was first settled by European farmers. The town's name is believed to be derived from the Aboriginal word 'boort', which means 'water'. This is quite appropriate given that the town is located near the Boort Lake, which is a popular spot for boating and fishing.

The first European settlers in Boort were pastoralists, who moved into the area in the 1840s. They established sheep stations in the area, and the town quickly grew to serve the needs of the local farming community. During the 1850s, the discovery of gold in nearby Bendigo and Ballarat led to an influx of miners into the area, and Boort became an important supply base for the goldfields.

In the years that followed, Boort continued to grow and develop. The town was officially proclaimed in 1886, and by the turn of the century, it had a population of around 800 people. The town's main industries included agriculture and timber milling, and many of the town's buildings from this period still stand today, including the Boort Post Office, which was built in 1893.

During World War I, many of the town's young men enlisted in the armed forces and fought overseas. Sadly, a number of them did not return, and the town has a War Memorial to commemorate their sacrifice. The war had a lasting impact on the town, and many families were affected by the loss of loved ones.

In the years that followed, Boort continued to prosper. New industries, such as dairy farming, were established, and the town's population increased. The people of Boort were proud of their town, and they worked hard to build a strong and vibrant community. They established local clubs and sporting teams, and the annual Boort Agricultural Show became a highlight of the town's calendar.

During World War II, Boort once again made a significant contribution to the war effort. Many of the town's men enlisted in the armed forces, and the town's women worked in munitions factories and other industries to support the war effort. Although the war brought many challenges, the people of Boort remained resilient and determined.

Today, Boort is a thriving town with a population of around 1,300 people. The town's economy is driven by agriculture, with sheep, cattle, and grains being the main industries. The town also has a number of small businesses, including cafes, shops, and service providers.

Despite its small size, Boort has a rich cultural life. The town has a number of community groups and organisations, including a local history society, a Lions Club, and a CWA branch. The town's annual Boort Music Festival is a popular event, attracting musicians and music lovers from across the region.

Boort is a town with a proud history and a strong sense of community. Its people have faced many challenges over the years, but they have always risen to the occasion and worked together to overcome them. As the town continues to grow and evolve, its people remain committed to preserving its heritage and building a bright future for the generations to come.
